Dr Ambedkar was the first person in his caste to complete his education. He therefore encouraged Dalits to send their children to school and college. He urged Dalits to take on different kinds of jobs in the government in order to move out of the caste system. He also led many efforts of Dalits to gain entry into temples.
After returning to India in 1924, Dr Ambedkar decided to launch an active movement against untouchability. In 1924, he founded the Bahishkrut Hitkaraini Sabha, aimed at uprooting caste system in India. The organisation ran free schools and libraries for all age groups
