The french revolution is the result of that ''enlightenment'' or the social theory based on emotion and the ''consent of  the governed'' movement.

The most influential philosopher for the french revolution is Rousseau, His writings were terse,  concise and profound. His ideas collected and empowered the French people around one idea viz the supreme direction of the general will.

He is the father of the modern totalitarianism as many call him.

His ideas about the sovereignty and legitimate government also were very impact full  towards the fulfillment of french revolution, For example the way in which a magistrate assumes the general will of his or her particular will was novel and essential to what he called ''energetic'' government .

There revolutionary ideas encouraged people to fight for their rights, they exposed the inefficiency of monarchy and his government and aroused the people to challenge authority.

Voltaire attacked the Catholic church, he believed that mans destiny is in his own hands and not in heaven, but with the help of GOD,  His ideas encouraged people to fight against privileges, and dominance of the Church without guilt.

The movement helped arouse the people from inactivity and instilled in them the desire to root out social inequalities and set up a government that is responsive to their needs.
