Ribosomes are minute membrane-less cell organelles. They are present in all types of cell, except matured sperm cells and RBC. The ribosomes may remain free and scattered in cytoplasm. Thy also may be attached to the surface of tough Endoplasmic reticulum. Each ribosome has two unequal sized sub units. During protein synthesis, many ribosomes get attached to RNA (Ribonucleic acid) strand to form a chain of ribosomes which are called polyribosomes.

Ribosomes play a prominent role in the synthesis of protein that is needed for many cell functions for repairing damage and chemical processes.
