Describe the salient features of the ryotiwari system.How was it different from the permanent settlement of Bengal ?

Ryotwari system : It was introduced by Thomas Munro . Munro felt that in the south there were no traditional zamindars . The settlement , they argued , had to be made directly with the cultivators who had tilled the land for generation.

Permanent Settlement : It was introduced by Charles Cornwallis in 1793 . Under this system agriculture produce and it's revenue was permanently fixed .
