In the first stage of sexual reproduction, "meiosis", the number of chromosomes is reduced from a diploid number (2n) to a haploid number (n). During "fertilization", haploid gametes come together to form a diploid zygote and the original number of chromosomes is restored

Chara reproduces sexually . It has a heterozygous condition i.e both the male and the female gametes are of different shape or size . The reproductive female part of the plant contains 5 corona cells ,5 tube cells and 8 sheild cells . Whereas the male gametes or antherozoids are found over the globular sheild and these are motile . While the female gametes are non motile.

Chara shows oogamous condition .
