Answer:
Central Berlin may be shopping heaven, but its hotspots are spread over a large area. To save you time, we’ve picked out the top five streets every dedicated shopper should make for
Kurfürstendamm
Its name usually shortened to Ku’damm, Berlin’s answer to the Champs-Elysées houses everything from major chains to haute couture. High-end brands including Chanel, Prada, Jil Sander, Burberry, Escada and Louis Vuitton all have their Berlin flagships here. You’ll also find more affordable options such as Mango, H&M, Bally and C&A.
Nearest U-Bahn station: Kurfürstendamm (lines U1 and U9) or Uhlandstrasse (line U1)
Tauentzienstrasse
Intersecting with Ku’damm, this broad and chic avenue in western Berlin is home to KaDeWe, continental Europe’s largest department store, famous for its jaw-dropping food hall among other things. Nearby Peek & Cloppenburg sells a clutch of slightly edgier designer labels, while Max Mara, Miu Miu, Montblanc, Swarovski and Puma all have a presence elsewhere on the street.
Nearest U-Bahn station: Wittenbergplatz (lines U1, U2 and U3)
Potsdamer Platz
Rebuilt in the 1990s on the site of the demolished Berlin Wall, the striking new shopping and culture hub at Potsdamer Platz is on the way to becoming Berlin’s new centre. Mainly a home to good-quality chains, its Potsdamer Arkaden mall has outlets for Tommy Hilfiger, G-Star Raw, Zara, Wolford and music and electronics centre WMF.
Nearest U-Bahn station: Potsdamer Platz (line U2 and S-Bahn lines S1, S2 and S25)
Friedrichstrasse
Now at the heart of a chic restaurant and entertainment district, east Berlin’s main shopping street Friedrichstrasse certainly gives Ku’damm a run for its money. Saint Laurent and Donna Karan have chosen it for their Berlin headquarters, and it also houses the sleek and modern Galeries Lafayette and Quartier 206 department stores. It’s not all clothes here, however. There are also bags at Furla, books and music at Dussman, cosmetics at Armani and exquisite timepieces at Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Nearest U-Bahn station: Stadtmitte (lines U2 and U6)
Alte/Neue Schönhauser Strasse
Berlin is famous for its independent labels and small boutiques, and this snaking pair of streets in east Berlin’s Mitte district is the place to find them. Among the cafés and restaurants, you’ll find the minimalist stores of Scandinavian labels Acne and Filippa K and Finnish design company Marimekko. The multi-brand boutique Holly showcases upcoming German designers, while Lee and Pepe Jeans both have flagship stores here.
Nearest U-Bahn station: Weinmeisterstrasse (line U8). You can also walk from the nearby S-Bahn station at Hackescher Markt
