Decentralization can be viewed as an extension of delegation. When a part of the work is entrusted to others, it is known as delegation. Decentralization extends to the lowest levels of the organization. In simple words decentralization is concerned with decentralization of decision-making authority to the lowest levels in either political system or managerial hierarchy
Necessity and significance:-It reduces the burden on top executives and relieves them of performing various functions.Decentralization of authority puts the whole responsibility on the shoulders of an executive and his immediate group. Decentralization ensures better control and supervision as the subordinates at the lowest levels will have the authority to make independent decisions. Political decentralization (Decentralization of Government) aims to give citizens or their elected representatives more power. It may be associated with pluralistic politics and representative government, but it also means giving citizens or their representatives more influence in the formulation and implementation of law and policies. In today's world decentralization of powers is necessary, irrespective of various forms of government.
