In the second stanza he addresses the captain as his father. This means that the captain played an important rule in sculpting his life. While everybody around the sailor is celebrating the victory, the sailor is mourning his captain's death. He calls his captain's death a dream, which means he had never thought that his captain could die. The sailor feels a strong sense of loyalty for his captain
