There are major two communities in Sri Lanka, Sinhalese 74% and Tamilians 18%. As Sinhalese were in majority so they elected themselves to power and also appointed themselves as officials of big offices and departments.

This things have hurted the emotions of Tamilians by which decided to have to have their own nation. Tamilians demanded the independent state in Sri Lanka. This led to the Civil War in Sri Lanka by which many people lost their life. Assertive policies of the community threatened the unity and integration of the country.

Answer:

Sri Lanka is an island nation.

It got its independence in 1948. At that time two communities existed in the nation : The Sinhalese that were in majority ie 74% and Tamilians which were minor ie 18%.

Since the Sinhalaese were in majority, they ruled the nation and got the power. All the major positions were taken over by Sinhalese . Hence, the assertive policies of the majority community threatened the unity of the nation.
