The Aryan Society was divided into four Varnas on the basis of duties. Those who took up the work of war came to be known as Kshatriyas, workers in trade and agricultural field were known as Vaishyas and those who had taken up the priestly duties became known as Brahamanas.

  1. Society was tribal but egalitaria.Aryans were fair in colour and the one the inhabitants were dark in complexion. This gave social distinction.
  2. The Dasas and Dasyus were treated as slaves and Shudras.
  3. The head of tribes were treated as superior. The society got divided into warriors, Priests, People on same pattern with Iran and Shudras.
  4. Women slaves were involved in domestic purposes.
  5. Division according to the occupation is also known.
  6. Patriarchal Society: Rig Veda show a society where family was a basic unit headed by Grahapati.
  7. Both men and women used clothes made of cotton and a large number of ornaments.
  8. Food items: wheat, barley, milk and milk products.
  9. Cows were considered sacred hence eating its meat was prohibited.
  10. Entertainment: Dance, music, chariot racing, horse racing were the time pass activities.

Upper class women shared equal rights as men.
