dalits were alienated by rest of the population, deprived of basic public facilities like..using public toilets,entering resturants,admission in gov. schools etc.The were designated as untouchables,eg. upper class people like pandits and brahmins used to take a bath after touching a dalit as they were said to be untouchables!They were not even allowed to enter the temples or other religious places.They were lethally tortured by people if seen in any public place!
