We have Many Measures for conserving Our natural Resources that are perfect and can work if implemented fully but the question is why we always fail in our conservation efforts? My answer is, not all of us understand the need for conserving our natural resources and can actually understand the full implications of natural resource depletion. It has been identified that cities in the world which occupies only 2% of the earth surface consume 75% of the world resources (CBD,2007). Biodiversity Loss due to human activities has also been identified to have higher chances of causing global extinction as compared to historic global extinction caused by asteroid impacts. and if that does not scare you enough, it is number six on the list of possible causes of global level extinction events (UN MA,2006 1st report). The Convention on Biological Diversity of 1992 even though has chalked some significant feats in trying to attain its 2010 goals, We have failed as a world to achieve what I would term as the most important goal of all the CBD’s 2010 goals, that is Reducing Unsustainable Consumption of Biological Resources and Consumption that harms Biodiversity. So next time You order sushi for Dinner, bear in mind that you are adding 1 newton of force into pushing the the already endangered blue-fin tuna to extinction. we must understand the implications of our actions and the need for even the most disgusting organism to you to exist for it is important to your existence after all the world is just a big food web. It is knowing these facts that will form the basis of conservation. And knowing this will incite the voluntary participation of everyone in conservation of our natural resources. When this is achieved then we can implement our conservation strategies such as the Protected Area systems, Community Resource Management, Adopting environmentally sound technologies. And above all they should all aim at attaining sustainability.
