Some methods used for domestic and industrial purification of water are:
BOILING WATER : Water is boiled for around 10 to 15 minutes in order to inactivate or Kill microorganisms that normally is live in water at room temperature. However, the effect of boiling does not stay. Therefore water that has been boiled and then stored for any length of time may acquire new pathogens.
CARBON FILTERING :Charcoal, a form of carbon with a high surface area, absorbs many compounds including some toxic compounds. Water is passed through activated charcoal in common household water filters.
DISTILLATION :The process of distillation involves boiling water to produce water vapour. When the vapour comes in contact with a cool surface, it condenses. Because the solutes are not normally vaporized they remain in the boiling solution.
REVERSE OSMOSIS :Reverse osmosis is the most thorough method of large scale water purification available. Mechanical pressure is applied to an impure solution to force pure water through a semipermeable membrane.
