The following points may help you:-

1)The Constituent Assembly was an elected body tasked with framing of Constitution for Independent India.

2)Elections to the Constituent Assembly took place in July 1946, whereby the elected members of the Provisional legislative Assembly elected members of Constituent Assembly by proportional representation system.

3)Thus, members were elected in an indirect manner.

4)Before the Partition the Constituent Assembly was supposed to have 389 which was later reduced to 299,out of which 284 were actually present  who gave their assent when the Constitution was passed.

Answer:

Constitution assembly was formed by the different steps taken by the leaders who were fighting for Indian Independence.

Explanation:

M. N. Roy, a leader of the Indian Communist movement and an advocate of radical democracy, put out the idea for a Constituent Assembly in December 1934. In 1935, the Indian National Congress made it a formal demand. Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru served as the chairman of the Indian National Congress during its session in Lucknow in April 1936. The Government of India Act, 1935, which imposed the Constitution against the Indians' will, was rejected when the official demand for a Constituent Assembly was made. On November 15, 1939, C. Rajagopalachari proposed a Constituent Assembly based on the adult franchise; the British agreed in August 1940.

Viceroy Lord made a remark on August 8, 1940. Viceroy Lord Linlithgow announced the growth of the Governor-Executive General's Council and the creation of a War Advisory Council on August 8, 1940. The August Offer allowed Indians to design their own constitution and gave due consideration to minority viewpoints. Elections for the Constituent Assembly were held for the first time under the Cabinet Mission Plan of 1946.

The Constituent Assembly created the Indian Constitution, which was put into effect on May 16, 1946, as part of the Cabinet Mission Plan.
