The cell wall is the protective, semi-permeable outer layer of a plant cell. A major function of the cell wall is to give the cell strength and structure, and to filter molecules that pass in and out of the cell.

The cell membrane which is also known as the plasma membrane. It is the outermost covering of animal cells. It is a semi-permeable membrane composed of lipids and proteins.

Plant cells have a cell wall, a large central vacuole, and plastids such as chloroplasts. The cell wall is a rigid layer that is found outside the cell membrane and surrounds the cell, providing structural support and protection.
