nephron is the basic unit which form the kidney.

the function of nephron is that it purifies the water with nitrogenous wastes ,salts and other waste substances.

the structure of the nephron.....it consists of-- glomerulas with a tuft of capillaries in it.

Then it contains a pct. .. and then DCT and at last collective duct.

Structure and function of the nephrons.

Nephrons are the basic structural and functional unit of the kidneys.

●It has a tuft of capillaries called the glomerulus and a Bowman's capsule. They are a part of the renal corpuscle. There is another part called the renal tubule who starts from the capsule. The afferent arteriole enters the capillaries and blood is filtered there which then gies out from the efferent arteriole. The diameter of the afferent arteriole is wider than that of the efferent because blood entering ghe capsule is more than leaving it.

●Endothelial cells, basement membrane and podocytes in the capsule are responsible for the filtration activity.

●The renal tubule has namely three parts i.e the proximal convoluted tubule, the Loop Of Henle and the distal convoluted tubule where the flow of the fluid takes place.

●So the processes undertaken are filtration, reabsorbtion(in tubules), secretion( in tubules) and excretion .

NOTE: WBC, PLATELETS , BLOOD PROTEINS AND RBCs are not filtered in the Bowman's capsule.
