In the nucleus of each cell, the DNA molecule is packaged into thread-like structures called chromosomes. Each chromosome is made up of DNA tightly coiled many times around proteins called histones that support its structure.

Chrosomes are thin thread like structures present in nucleus. They carry genes in them. Genes are the units of hereditary. They control the transfer of hereditary characters with them.The facial and mental complexion of the offsprings of humans are a result of these characters.

Hence, they play very important role in an individual.
