The bacterium, despite its simplicity, contains a well-developed cell structure which is responsible for some of its unique biological structures and pathogenicity. Many structural features are unique to bacteria and are not found among archaea or eukaryotes.

Ans - Bacteria are simple Prokaryotic micro-organisms.

Some bacterial cells having different structures :-

  • Spherical or Coccus - The bacterial cells coming under this category are generally spherical in shape. On joining to form a chain, these bacteria form a "coccus". (Eg - Diblococcus).

  • Bacillus - The bacterial cells coming under this category are generally rod shaped in nature. (Eg - Lactobacillus)

  • Vibrio - The bacterial cells coming under this category are generally classified to have a comma ( , ) like structure. (Eg - Vibriocholerae)

  • Spiral - The bacterial cells coming under this category generally have a spiral structure. (Eg - Spirillum voluntance)
