  • Fruit is the dry or fleshy ripened ovary of plant which is flowering in nature.
  • It encloses the seeds or seed.
  • It consist of two main part :
  1. The pericarp
  2. The seed
  • Pericarp's structure and thickness varies from fruit to fruit.
  • It is made up of three distinct layers :
  1. Epicarp : it is the outer layer.
  2. Mesocarp : it is the middle layer, it is the edible fleshy and sweet juicy part of fruit.
  3. Endocarp  : it is the inner most hard covering layer.
  • The three layer fruits are not easily distinguishable in dry fruit.
  • Fruits are classified into three of the following groups :
  1. Simple fruit
  2. Aggregate fruit
  3. Composite / multiple fruits.
