- Pericarp's structure and thickness varies from fruit to fruit.
- It is made up of three distinct layers :
- Epicarp : it is the outer layer.
- Mesocarp : it is the middle layer, it is the edible fleshy and sweet juicy part of fruit.
- Endocarp : it is the inner most hard covering layer.
- The three layer fruits are not easily distinguishable in dry fruit.
