Structure: An ovum is generally spherical, non-motile gamete with yolky cytoplasm and enclosed in one or more egg envelopes. Size of ovum varies in different animals and depends upon the amount of yolk. Size of ovum varies from 10 to a few cm !

1. Human ovum are non-leidoic (that don't have a shell) and alecithal (without the yolk).

2. Ovum is surrounded by a membrane called as plasma membrane.

3. The cytoplasmic part in the ovum is known as ooplasm.

4. Ovum has two polarity i.e animal pole and vegetative pole.

5. The space in the ovum where the polar bodies occurs are known to be pwrivitelline space.

6. Either one or two polar bodies are present in the ovum.

7. The granulosa cells that are present had a part called the 'corona radiata', that is present around the ovum during ovulation.

8. The Zona pellucida is the thick, rich covering secreted by the secondary oocyte and in the inner follicular cells.
