Answer:

Structure and location :- The structure of xylem and phloem is also different. While xylem is made up of tracheids and vessels, phloem is made up of sieve tubes which have many holes for transporting nutrients. Xylem is star-shaped, while phloem is round and actually surrounds the xylem. The xylem is located towards the adaxial surface of the leaf, whereas, phloem is located towards the abaxial surface of the leaf.

Functions :- Xylem and phloem facilitate the transportation of water, minerals and food throughout the plant. Xylem carries water and minerals from the roots to the leaves. Whereas, phloem carries the food prepared by the leaves to different parts of the plant

Answer:

Xylem: It is a vascular and mechanical tissue.xylem consists of four types of cells called xylem elements. These are

a) Tracheids: single - celled elongated dead cells; walls thick due to the deposition of lignin.Broad lumen with non - lignified pits at certain places.

b) vessels: much elongated multicellular tubes ;the cell wall of the vessels is moderately thick, lignified and lumen is wide.

c) Xylem parenchyma: they are living parenchymatous cell with thin cellulose wall.

d) Xylem sclerenchyma: they are long, narrow cell tapering at both the ends. These are dead cells with lignified walls.

Phloem: phloem in a living conducting or vascular tissue. phloem consist of 4 element of cell .these are:

a) sieve tubes: these are slender tube-like structure made- up of elongated,thin- walled cells placed end to end.

b) Campion cells: these are thin walled and elongated cells attached to lateral sides of the sieve tube . These cells have very active cytoplasm and large and elongated nucleus.

c) phloem parenchyma : they are thin wall living cells. they store food and help in lateral transportation of food .

d) phloem fibres: these are sclerenchymatous fibres which provide mechanical strength to the plant.

Functions of Xylem:

i) Tracheids, vessels, and xylem sclerenchyma provide mechanical strength to the plant body.

ii) xylem parenchyma store food and help in conduction of water.

Functions of Phloem

i) phloem parenchyma help in the lateral conduction and the storage of food.

ii) poem fibre are used by man of making ropes and rough cloth.
