There were three estates
Nobles: this included the king, queen , ministers etc
clergy: this include the church peoples
3 estate: this included the peasant, artisan, lawyer,merchants etc.

The three estates of france at that time were :
First Estate (the clergy)
Clergies were the group of the person invested with special function in the church. They enjoyed certain privileges by birth, like exemption from paying taxes to the state.
Second Estate (the nobility)
It consisted of rich, aristocrat people if the state. They also enjoyed the privileges of exemption from paying taxes to the taxes.
Third Estate
It consisted of the rest of the population I.e, businessmen, merchants, court officials, they had to pay direct taxes called Taille
