The chapter Going Places sets out to talk about the themes of adolescence fantasizing and hero worship. Adolescence is the age when a person is able to think about his surroundings, his future plans, etc. but still young enough to know the realities of life. He has not yet seen the hard work required to make his dreams come true. So, most of the plans that one makes in this age seem nothing more than fantasizing. This is best expressed through the characterisation of Sophie. She plans that she would open her own boutique. She feels that her capabilities are out in the open and hence, she would be given the job of a Manager from the very beginning. Her imagination hardly stops here and one fine day, she feels that she has met Daney Casey. Daney Casey is the hero whom not only Sophie, but her entire family worships. Geoff turns out to be the emblematic figure of a hero worshipper.
