FIRSTLY,WHAT IS THEORY OF MORAL DEVOLOPMENT?

the Theory of Moral Development is a very interesting subject that stemmed from Jean Piaget's theory of moral reasoning. Developed by psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg, this theory made us understand that morality starts from the early childhood years and can be affected by several factors.

ACCORDING TO THAT THEORY THERE ARE 3 LEVELS AND 6 STAGES FOR MORAL DEVOLOPMENT AND

EVERY 2 STAGES ARE GROUPED AS A LEVEL

PREMORAL LEVEL:
========== =======
The first stage in theory of moral devolopment is punishment-obiedience and avoidence.It says that we have to make moral decisions strictly on based on self intrests.and disobey rules if can do so without getting caught.

The second stage of theory of moral devolopment is exchange of favours.it says,Recognize that others have needs but satisfaction of your own needs a higher priority.

CONVENTIONAL LEVEL:
=============== ======
The third stage of theory and the first sublevel of conventional level is to be a good boy/good girl.it says,make decisions on basis of what will please others.concerned about maintaining inter personal relations .

The fourth stage of conventional level is law and order.Look to society as a whole to guidelines of behaviour.and think of rules as inflexible and unchangable.

PRINCIPLED LEVEL :
=========== =====
The fifth stage of theory and first stage of principled level is social contract.it tells that we have to recognize that the rules are social agreements which can be changed according to neccesity.

The final stage of theory is universal ethical principle.it says that we have to adhere to a small number of abstract principles that transcend specific,concrete rules and answer to an inner conscience.
