Following are the three pathways of glucose breakdown in living organisms:-
✏ Anaerobic respiration:
Glucose ---(in cytoplasm)---> Pyruvate ---> 2C2H5OH + 2CO2 + 2 ATP
✏ Aerobic Respiration (Insufficient supply of oxygen):
Glucose --(in cytoplasm)--> Pyruvate ---(In absence of O2 in muscle tissue)----> 2 Lactic acid + 2 ATP
✏ Aerobic Respiration ( sufficient supply of oxygen):
Glucose ---> Pyruvate ---(in presence of oxygen)---> 2H2O + 2CO2 +38 ATP
