All the four means of transport—roadways, railways, waterways and airways—are well developed in the region. In the plain region, there is a dense network of roads and railways which connects various parts of the region. Ganga and Brahmaputra are navigable throughout the year and hence waterways are used to transport bulky and heavy goods. Kolkata is an important port in the region. Delhi, Kolkata, Patna are some important airports in the Ganga-Brahmaputra basin.
