1) Macronutrients: Those nutrients which are required in large amounts for the organisms. Examples of macronutrient are nitrogen, phosphorus, Potassium, calcium and sulfur.

2) Micronutrients: Those nutrients which are required in small amounts for the organisms. Examples are magnesium, boron, chlorine, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, molybdenum and nickel.
