There are two types of root systems :
- Tap root system
- Fibrous root system
Tap root system :
- A single main root is found.
- Found in diacots. That is the plants with 2 cotelydons.
- It has many lateral roots growing from the main one.
- Eg : Beetroots , Carrots , Radish
Fibrous root system :
- Many roots are found.
- Found in monocots .
- No main root
- Eg : Wheat , Rice , orchids

Taproots have a main central root upon which, small, lateral roots called root hairs are attached.
EXAMPLE:-
- Mustard
- Carrot
- Beetroot
- Parsley
- China rose and all dicotyledons
Fibrous roots, on the other hand, are bushy roots in which thin, moderately branching roots grow from the stem.
EXAMPLE :-
- Rice
- Wheat
- Maize
- Marigold
- Banana and all monocotyledons

Adventitious roots:-
