The 2 ways to create a new style in OOo Writer are:

a. From Selection:

i. Open Styles and Formatting Window (Standard Toolbar OR F11 OR Format > Style and Formatting).  

ii. Choose type of style you want to create (Paragraph, Character, List, Frame or Page).

iii. Select the text with formatting on the document workspace.

iv. Click on New Style on the Styles and Formatting Window.

b. Drag and Drop:

i. Open Styles and Formatting Window (Standard Toolbar OR F11 OR Format > Style and Formatting).  

ii. Choose type of style you want to create (Paragraph, Character, List, Frame or Page).

iii. Select the text with formatting on the document workspace.

iv. Drag the text to the Window.

v. Type in a name for the style on the dialog box which appears. Click OK to save.
