The archaeological and literary sources of information help historians trace history. Archaeological sources include monuments, temples, inscriptions, coins and weapons. Literary sources include manuscripts, folk tales, poems and biographies of different rulers.

There are two different types of archaeological sources in the medevial time they are:
1 literary sources:
Manuscripts: they are written by had on palm leaves of barks of trees. These have been destroyed in time some were eaten by insects, animals etc and some were burnt in fire.
Inscriptions: these were engraved on hard surfaces such as rocks, stones, copper plates etc these inscriptions were engraved on pillars and copper plates in the kings rule. We can find many pillars of the period of Ashoka even now these cannot be destroyed

They are very important because they are the some of the main sources of knowing about history and remains an inportant source for archaeologists to find about our past.
