The three main branches/organs of government are the legislative, executive, and judiciary. Very simply, the legislative branch makes the laws, the executive enforces the laws, and the judiciary interprets the laws. Many countries today practice some form of this system of government, particularly the United States.

Genrally there are three organs of government as decribed below:

Legislature- This organ is responsible for making laws to govern the country.

Executive- This organ is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws. The ministers belong to Executive branch. But in india the Ministers also participate in law making process.

Judiciary- It is responsible for interpretting the constitutional validity of laws and it has the jurisiction on other matters also if it pertains to violation of constitutional provisions.

In a federal set up of governance , there is system of checks and balances to limit each organ from becoming too powerful. The best example of balace of power is the Constitution of America.

There is horizontal division of power among the three oragans with their own roles to play in the governance of a country.
