This is a part of the story called "The Malgudi days" written by R K Narayan of which, the "Engine Trouble" is a part.
Here it had been described well that just after winning a Panther road engine through a lottery context, the writer realized that it was actually a source of trouble. So he made many efforts by many steps to get rid of it.
So he wanted to get rid of it.
He tried to hire a driver er at first.
Then he tried to push it along the field and get rid of it.
For this he believed that a great labor and strength was required and hence he thought that an elephant would best fit for the purpose.
