Answer:

There are five major types of natural vegetation found in India- Tropical Evergreen, Deciduous, Dry Deciduous, Desert, Tidal and Mountain Forests. They are majorly classified on the basis of average annual rainfall and the kinds of area that they are found in.

Explanation:

The different types of natural vegetation found in India are as follows:

1- Tropical Evergreen Rain Forests

> In areas where rainfall is more than 200 cm, they grow.

> They are situated in areas of the western Ghats and the north-eastern regions of the islands of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, the Himalayan Tarai and the Andaman tribes.

> Trees never shed all their leaves in these woods.

2- Deciduous or Monsoon type of Forests

> They are found in areas of rainfall 100 - 200 cm.

> They grow in areas of the lower slope of the Himalayas, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and the adjoining regions.

> These trees shed their leaves during dry-winter and dry-summer.

3- Dry Deciduous Forests and Scrubs

> They are located in areas where precipitation ranges from 100 cm to 200 cm.

> The Himalayas, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and the adjacent regions are rising on the lower slopes.

> During dry-winter and dry-summer, these trees lose their leaves.

4- Semi-deserts and Deserts vegetation

> In areas where rainfall is less than 50 cm, this type of vegetation grows in

> In these deserts, the Indian wild date, known as "Khejur", is popular.

> In order to survive the long drought, they have long roots and thick fleshy stems in which they store water.

> They are found in Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat, Karnataka and Punjab.

5- Tidal or Mangrove Forests

> They are found along the shores and at the edges of the deltas.

> They are called 'Tidal Forests' because during high tides, their dense growth relies on tidal water that submerges the deltaic lands.

6- Mountain Forests

> They vary according to altitude with varying rainfall and temperature along the slopes of mountains.
