Answer:

There are five main modes of seed dispersal: gravity, wind, ballistic, water, and by animals. Some plants are serotinous and only disperse their seeds in response to an environmental stimulus. Dispersal involves the letting go or detachment of a diaspore from the main parent plant.

Seed dispersal is the movement, spread or transport of seeds away from the parent plant. Plants have limited mobility and rely upon a variety of dispersal vectors to transport their propagules, including both abiotic vectors such as the wind and living (biotic) vectors like birds. Seeds can be dispersed away from the parent plant individually or collectively, as well as dispersed in both space and time. The patterns of seed dispersal are determined in large part by the dispersal mechanism and this has important implications for the demographic and genetic structure of plant populations, as well as migration patterns and species interactions.

Answer:

Following are the ways in which the seeds are dispersed:

1) Dispersal by wind- The seeds that are usually smaller in size or that have wings or hair like structures get dispersed by wind to far away places. Examples- sunflower, drumstick, maple, etc.

2) Dispersal by water- Fruits or seeds that develop floating ability in the form of spongy or fibrous coat are carried away by water to different places. Example- coconut.

3) Dispersal by bursting- Seeds get disperse by the bursting of fruits with sudden .Examples- balsa, castor

4)Dispersal by animals and birds- Spiny seeds get attached to the body of animals and birds and are carried to new sites by them. Some fruits have hooks that cling to the fur or clothes. Examples- mango, xanthi
