It's not Verna but Varna system. It originated long back but clearly described by Kautilya first and later in Manusmriti by Manu.

Varna system is a four fold caste system.

According to this system, there are four castes.

1. Brahmins,born from the head of God Brahma

top caste in Indian society. Highly respected by everyone.

2. kshetriyas, born from the shoulders of Brahma. Soldiers are from this caste.

3. Vysyas, born from thighs of God Brahma. They are into businesses and traders.

4. Sudras, born from foot of God Brahma. They are the lowest in the system and treated badly.

They are born to serve rest of the castes.
