Nelson Mandela believed the ugly oppression of apartheid could be defeated with the sacrifices of thousands of black people. He felt he was the sum of all those African patriots who had died fighting for justice. He felt pained to realize he could not thank them for their sacrifices.  

He particularly remembered Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu, Chief Luthuli, Yusuf Dadoo, Bram Fischer, Robert Sobukwe and many more for their exemplary contributions and sacrifices in bringing equality for the colored people in South Africa.
