The narrator belongs to Hosahalli, a village in the erstwhile Mysore State. Hosahalli is to Mysore state what the sweet ‘Karigadabu’ is to a festive mealin South India. The village has some mango trees, creepers and a pond. The people are simple. The ‘priceless commodity’, English is not so widespread in Hosahalli. The narrator is proud of his village and speaks glowingly of it.
