The western side of the road as seen by Mriganko Babu is described below.
- When Mriganko Babu was on his way back to the city, returning from Durgapur, he got stranded and had to stay near a paddy field, as his car ran out of petrol.
- He sent his driver Sudheer to fetch petrol as he decided to wait there and relax in the car. But some time after the driver left, he gets out of the car and looks around.
- On the western side of the road, Mriganko Babu noticed there were two huts at a distance and there seemed no sign of habitation.
- He then notices a scarecrow in the middle of the paddy field. The scarecrow was made of a pole of bamboo having two arms and legs. Its head was made of an earthen pot put upside down.
- He feels as if he has seen someone before, wearing the same red and black printed shirt, that the scarecrow was wearing.
