The temperate zone: Is the region between the tropic of cancer and the Arctic circle in the Northern Hemisphere as well as the region between the tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic Circle in the southern hemisphere. This zone has moderate type of climate,i.e,neither too hot not too cold.

The torrid zone: is the region on either sides of the Equator, between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of Capricorn. As this region lies close to equator, it receives direct rays of the sun and hence remains hot throughout the year.
