Back in 1789, France’s National Assembly gathered at Versailles to pledge not to disband until the country has a working constitution. This was the first step of France to become a Constitutional Monarch. However this was considered as a result of American Revolution sentiments and Enlightenment. The National Assembly gathered to form a new constitutional type of government with a king, in order to prevent the injustice of old order.

  • For the above goal, the National Assembly had reduced the power of King Louis XVI with a new title “King of France”.
  • The Assembly allowed the king to appoint ministers.
  • The Assembly had also provided the King a Suspensive Veto Power.
