Three types of aquatic plants:
- Submerged Aquatic Weeds: Submerged plants are rooted in the pond bottom and grow up through the water column.
- Emergent Aquatic Weeds: Like submerged plants, emergent are rooted in the pond bottom, however these species extend above the surface of the water.
- Free Floating Aquatic Weeds: Free floating plants live on the water’s surface, are not rooted in the soil, and are usually found in areas with little to no water movement.

Three types of aquatic plants are:
- Floating plants - These plants have hollow spaces which contain air. The hollow spaces in them reduces their weight and enables them to float. Ex- duckweed, water hyacinth, etc.
- Submerged plants - As the name suggests, these plants remain submerged in water. They have strong and flexible stem. Ex- pondweed, hydrilla, etc.
- Fixed plants - These plants have roots which remain fixed in water. They cannot perform locomotion. Ex- lotus, water lily, etc.
