oxidation of alcohol leads to formation of aldehyde which on oxidation forms carboxylic acid!

Ethanol can be oxidized to
1) acetaldehyde by CrOe/pyridine
2) acetic acid by alk.KMnO4
● Reactions -
1) Ethanol to acetaldehyde -
Ethanol when treated with weak oxidizing reagents like CrO3/pyridine will give acetaldehyde.
CH3CH2OH + [O] --> CH3CHO + H2O
2) Ethanol to acetic acid -
Ethanol when treated with strong oxidizing reagents like alk.KMnO4 will give acetic acid.
CH3CH2OH + 2[O] --> CH3COOH + H2O
