* Plant roots help in binding the soil. By planting trees, soil erosion can be reduced and soil can be conserved.
* Overgrazing of animals leaves the soil naked which results in soil erosion. Therefore, overgrazing of animals should be checked by restricting the free movement of animals in the field and by growing fodder crops. This will help in soil conservation.
* Floods sweep off land and cause soil erosion. Therefore, floods should be prevented by building dams across the rivers. This is also a method of soil conservation.
* Terrace farming and contour ploughing also helps in soil conservation across hilly areas. Terrace farming is planting of trees on the terrace and contour ploughing is a technique of ploughing parallel to the contours of a hill slope rather than up and down the slope, so as to reduce soil erosion.
These are the methods of soil conservation.
