The story is ironical because the writer did not write ghost stories out of choice. He wanted to write stories of other genres. But his ghost stories were more popular. It was ironical again that Helen, the ghost helped him to write the ghost stories. The appearance of the ghost adds a humorous element to the story. The satire lies in the representation of fashionable ladies and their fads.
