Lead is one of the most used metals in industry. The main use of lead is for producing electrical batteries for vehicles. Alloys of lead are also used in industry. Addition of small amount of Arsenic and Antimony in lead increases the hardness & mechanical resistance of lead. the calcium-lead and tin-lead alloys are used in coating certain electrical cables. As lead is corrosion resistant, it can be made into lead plate, plumbing and other alloy materials to protect ships from marine corrosion in shipbuilding. It is used as a writing tool in pencils. As lead is radiation resistant, it can be used by hospital personnel and some other workers who work in radioactive environment to protect them from radiation. Lead is also used in railways, constructing weapons, transportation, aerospace, metallurgy, chemical industries, etc.
