Nutrition is the process of taking food and its utilisation by the body.

$\underline\bold{Modes\:of\:Nutrition:-}$

There are two modes of nutrition--

(i) Heterotrophic mode

(ii) Autotrophic mode

●$\bold{Heterotrophic\:mode:-}$ The organisms which cannot produce own their food and depend on other organisms for their food. This mode of nutrition is known as heterotrophic mode of nutrition.

Heterotrophs are classified into three categories on the basis of their mode of nutrition:-

1. Parasites
For example:- Leeches.

2.Saprophytes
For example:- Mushrooms.

3.Holozoic
For example:- Humans, dogs etc.

●$\bold{Autotrophic\:Mode:-}$ In this process organisms use water and other organic matters and carbon dioxide in the presence of light and chlorophyll to synthesize their food.

For example:- Algae, Bacteria etc.
