Velu lived in a small village of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu with his drunkard father. His father used to mistreat him regularly. He was fed up with all this and one day he decides to run away from his village.
He got up on a train which crossed his village, without knowing where he is going and without tickets. He finally reached Chennai and was not able to stand properly on the platform because his feet was all swollen and he was hungry. He felt so lost in this big city and was not able to read most of the signs because it was written in English, though he could read Tamil.
