Answer:

Here is the answer. Significant figures are the actual values that we use to answer. ... Also, we count the digits of the number starting from first non-zero digit , in the case of significant figures. Order of magnitude, on the other hand, is an exponential change in the power of 10 in the value of a quantity.

Answer:

The significant figures of A number written in positional notation are digits that carry meaningful contribution to its measurement resolution.

There are Certain rules for writing significant figures;

1) All non -Zero digit are considered as significant.

e. g. - 91 has 2 significant figures (9&1)

78 has two significant figures (7&8)

2) Zeros appearing anywhere between two significant figures are also significant.

e. g.- 101 has 3 significant figures (1, 0&1)

3) Zeros on the left of significant figures are not significant (leading zeros).

e. g- 02 has only 1 significant figure (2)

0.123 has 3 significant figures (1, 2&3)

4) Zeros on the right Of the non - Zero digits(trailing zeros) are significant if they are to the right of the decimal Point as these are only necesary to indicate precision.

e. g- 420 has 3 significant figures (4, 0&2)

3.0 has 2 significant figures (3&0)

3.00 has 3 significant figures (3, 0&0) { it is so, because 3 is significant figure and 0 is also significant as it is trailing Zero and 0 between 3&0 is significant because the number between two significant figures is also significant}

Order of magnitude:

An order of magnitude is an approximate of the logarithm of a value relative to some contextually

understood reference value, usually ten interpreted as the base of the logarithm and the representative of the values of magnitude one.
