An electroscope is a device which is used to detect charge on a body.

It is consists of a glass jar or bottle , who is mouth should be covered by a cardboard disc , with a small hole in centre. Now , insert a metal rod fitted with the two aluminium foils at its lower end through the hole. Then , bring a charged near the upper end of metal rod touching it.

We observe that both the aluminium foils repel each other because they acquire the same charge from the refill through rod.
