The world distribution of active volcanoes is in the circum Pacific belt and the mid world mountain belt .

Circum Pacific belt includes Andes mountains of South America , Rockies of North America and Kurile islands , Japanese islands , Taiwan , Phillipines and Indonesian islands in Asia . Some of the famous volcanoes in this belt are chimborozo and cotopaxi in the Andes, Mt. Fujiyama in Japan , Mt. Mayon in Phillipines and Mt. Krakatoa in Indonesia. It is estimated that there are about 40 active volcanoes in the Andes ,35 in Japan,100 in Phillipines and 70 in Indonesia.

Mid world mountain belt : Mid world mountain belt coincides with Alpine Himalayan mountains which extends through Europe and Asia. This belt bend towards southwards through the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and merges with the circum-Pacific Belt in Indonesia.

Mt. Vesuvius , My. Stromboli and Mt. Etna in Italy are examples of volcanoes in this belt. There are no active volcanoes in the Himalayan ranges.

Volcanoes occur in some of the islands such as Iceland, Cape Verde and Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

Mt.Kilimanjaro and Mt.Kenya are volcanoes along the margin of the African Rift valley. The Hawaiian Islands are volcanic islands in the Pacific ocean, where there are many isolated volcanic islands.
